Fortunately there are many passes available for public transportation systems. The most economical way is using City bus and Kyoto bus one day pass. Used to be valid for only City bus now Kyoto bus joined the program expand useful area. The price is 500JPY it's about 5.00USD. Please be aware of that it doesn't cover whole area you need to pay extra fare if you get off a bus outside of designated area. Kyoto Sightseeing One day and Two day pass.are more convenient. You can use outside of Kyoto as well including Osaka, Nara, Hyogo, Wakayama and Shiga all Kansai area. Also you can get discount for admission fee among 350 tourist spots. 2 day pass is 4000JPY about 40.00USD 3 day pass is 5200JPY about 52.00USD. Child is half price.
