Buke Yashiki is the former home of a middle-rank samurai family, preserved from the Edo Period in Matsue. Unlike the more grand samurai homes in other areas of Japan, the residence in Matsue represents the lifestyle of middle-class samurai serving their lords. The home is well preserved with displays of samurai artifacts and information about the life and times during the Edo Period in Matsue. This perfectly preserved building also features a Japanese garden onsite and is just a brief walk away from the Matsue Castle. The residence is also a short walk away from the Matsue History Museum & Hori-enya Memorial Hall. This 18th century building is nestled quietly by the castle, making it a great stop for fans of samurai who want a picture with the castle in the background. The castle town of Matsue is filled with dynamic stops to enjoy during a Japan tour.
