Immerse in Hokkaido's History

The Historic Village of Hokkaido is an open-air museum in Sapporo with buildings from all over Hokkaido in the style of the Meiji to Showa Periods. Opened in 1983, the village is split into four sections: the town (31 buildings), fishing village (4 buildings), farming village (14 buildings), and a mountain village (3 buildings). The Historic Village is designed for guests to see the expansion and growth of Hokkaido, as well as the everyday life Hokkaido's residents had.
The Historic Village is only five minutes away from the Hokkaido Museum, which is dedicated to preserving and teaching the nature, history, and culture of Hokkaido. The Hokkaido Museum features artifacts from the Ainu (the indigenous people in Hokkaido), aerial photos, exhibits on Hokkaido's development, and miniature models of Hokkaido during various periods. Guests can enjoy the museum in multiple languages, and even take a hand at speaking in the Ainu Language with the special translator exhibit. The Hokkaido Museum and Historic Village are the ultimate ways to learn more about the northern island of Japan during your tour!
