Asahiyama Zoo located in Hokkaido is one of Japan's most well known zoos. The zoo is popular for the many different angles visitors can view the animals from. One such example is the penguin tunnel. The underwater tunnel allows visitors to view the penguins from below and watch as they swim around the tunnel. The Seals View is another similar experience in which visitors can view the polar bears up close. A glass dome built in the polar bears' compound puts the visitor in a unique position, sometimes even just under the polar bear as it walks right above you. A similar dome puts you in the same position with wolves as well, sure to be a thrilling experience. Located in the middle of Hokkaido in such a natural setting, the zoo has all kinds of wildlife including giraffes, apes, lesser pandas, cranes, and more.
