The Amuse Museum has permanently closed as of March, 2019.
The Amuse Museum is a museum that focuses on displaying traditional Japanese culture through art. Exhibitions at the museum include ukiyo-e, traditional quilts, and textiles. The main exhibit on display is BORO
which takes a look into the textile culture of ancient Japan. The museum makes it a point to have the audience really experience and get into the history, culture, and life behind the works of art. Many of the the quilts on display date back to the Edo period (1603 - 1868) and have been passed down generation to generation. In addition to textiles, the museum also has an ukiyo-e theater which puts on display traditional woodblock prints digitally so as to not damage the original pieces themselves. Many of the prints are very rare and include first editions of famous ukiyo-e artists such as Hokusai Katsushika.
