Kagoshima Shirokuma Ice | White Snow Dessert

Shirokuma, which means polar bear, refers to a type of shaved ice in Kagoshima. It is a kakigori, Japanese shaved ice, with condensed milk and various toppings such as fruits, mochi, and red bean paste. Some say that the kakigori's white color of the ice from the condensed milk and the toppings resemble a polar bear. Though the origin of the name is unclear, Shirokuma continues to be a favorite among the Kagoshima locals.
