Osaka Castle, or Osaka-jo, was built in 1583 and stood until 1615 when the Tokugawa troops attacked Hideyoshi's castle. The castle was rebuilt in the 1620s but was burned down when lightening struck on the castle in 1665. It again went under reconstruction in 1931 and even survived the war. Since its repairs in 1997, the castle now stands with a modern interior in a museum like style. Visitors can learn about the history of the castle and the ruling of Hideyoshi through displays and artifacts in the castle museum. The castle tower is surrounded by secondary citadels, gates, turrets, impressive stone walls and moats. The Osaka Castle Park is a popular park in the springtime where many gather to view the beautiful cherry blossoms flow with the wind.
