Euphonium, which beautifully captures its riverside charm. At the stunning Byodo-in Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we’ll admire the elegant Phoenix Hall—so iconic it appears on the ¥10 coin. Of course, no trip to Uji is complete without sampling its world-famous green tea. Enjoying a fresh bowl of matcha in this historic setting brings to life the tea culture often highlighted in anime such as Yuru Camp and Rokuhoudou Yotsuiro Biyori. Afterward, we'll browse quaint local shops filled with artisan sweets and matcha-inspired goods. Our journey continues to Kyoto’s Fushimi district, a picturesque area known for its centuries-old sake breweries. With its nostalgic streets and preserved architecture, it evokes the setting of period anime, blending tradition with atmosphere. Anime like Sarazanmai have used similar settings to convey Kyoto’s deep cultural layers. We end the day at Fushimi Inari Taisha, whose vivid vermilion torii gates are among the most iconic images in all of Japan. Our cultural adventure begins in Nara, home to one of Japan’s most iconic spiritual sites—Todai-ji Temple. This awe-inspiring complex, featured in several historical and fantasy anime, houses the Great Buddha (Daibutsu) in the world’s largest wooden building. The scale and serenity of this UNESCO World Heritage site provide an unforgettable introduction to Japan’s ancient legacy. Just steps away, we enter Nara Park, where sacred deer roam freely—often depicted in slice-of-life anime for their peaceful presence and charming interactions. Feeding the deer here feels like stepping into a Studio Ghibli scene, adding a gentle, magical touch to the day. Next, we journey to Uji, a picturesque town known both for its classical architecture and its revered matcha. Anime fans may recognize this area from series such as Sound! Frequently featured in anime and films—from Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha to Memoirs of a Geisha—the endless paths of torii gates through the mountainside offer a surreal and cinematic conclusion to the day’s journey.
