Harajuku Kiddy Land is possibly one of Japan's most famous and largest retail store specialized in toys, novelty goods and stationary, and Hello Kitty/Sanrio merchandise. Founded by Mr. Koichiro Hashidate in 1946 as Reading Book Club Hashidate Book Shop
, Kiddy Land expanded over the years thanks to growing popularity. Kiddy Land now has 6 floors and 2 basement levels in Omotesando, Harajuku. You're sure to find plushies, figures, toys, and apparel based on Japan's most popular characters (Totoro, Doraemon, Hello Kitty, etc.) and international stars like the characters from Peanuts and Disney. While this once humble store carried international products for the foreign population in Japan, Kiddy Land has grown in influence and is now credited with introducing the celebration of Valentine's Day and Halloween in Japan. If you love seasonal or exclusive Hello Kitty products, Kiddy land is a must. The store is decorated by the seasons so each visit means something different. It makes sense that Kiddy Land was once considered Japan's FAO Schwarz. Kiddy Land has grown to include other locations in Tokyo and Osaka as well, but the toy store in Harajuku is still the top of the list!
