Kenrokuen Garden is located in the heart of Kanazawa city and is considered One of the Three Most Beautiful Gardens in Japan along with Okayama's Koraku-en Garden and Ibaraki's Kairaku-en Garden. While the garden was originally a private garden for the Maeda family mansion, the garden flourished under their ruling period from the 1620's to 1840's. Located next to the scenic Kanazawa Castle, this inviting stroll-type landscape garden stretches over 100,000 m². As guests walk through the traditional Japanese garden, they'll find various hills, streams, koi ponds, and water falls through the garden grounds. The beauty is enhanced by the seasonal flowers that bloom, including the popular Cherry Blossoms in the spring. In fact, Kenrokuen is a great spot to enjoy cherry blossoms with the castle in the background of the garden.
In addition to being a popular cherry blossom spot to view Japanese flowers in the Spring, Kenroku-en Garden also draws crowds of travelers during the cooler months of Fall for Autumn Leaves viewing as well. The garden boasts an impressive collection of seasonal flower trees, making the garden a popular destination year-round. However, the Spring Cherry Blossom season is worth exploring the garden grounds, especially when paired with a walk down the nearby pedestrian way. This small shopping street is lined with traditional shops and restaurants to enjoy, along with a beautiful arrangement of blooming sakura trees along the path.
