Day 9

Today, we journey west to explore some of the most iconic cultural landmarks in Japan, beginning with a visit to the legendary Himeji Castle, one of Japan’s most celebrated and best-preserved feudal castles. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Himeji Castle—also known as the White Heron Castle—is renowned for its brilliant white exterior, elegant architecture, and defensive design. Built in the early 1600s, the castle has survived wars, earthquakes, and fires, standing today as a symbol of Japan’s rich samurai history. Visitors can stroll through the well-maintained castle grounds and marvel at the original wooden interiors, steep staircases, and panoramic views of Himeji city.

Just a short walk from the castle, discover the beautifully landscaped Koko-en Garden, a traditional Japanese garden composed of nine distinct sections that recreate styles from the Edo period. Wander through peaceful pathways lined with koi ponds, stone bridges, seasonal flowers, and tea houses. Day 10

We will spend today exploring the city of Hiroshima. Our tour begins with a visit to the A-Bomb Dome, the only surviving building from the aftermath of the Atomic Bombing in Hiroshima. The A-Bomb Dome is located on the Peace Park Memorial park grounds, the site where the atomic bomb struck Hiroshima. Stroll along the park to see famous attractions like that of Sadako’s statue and the freedom bell. The A-Bomb Dome has been preserved to be a reminder of the tragedy for future generations and to symbolize its wishes for everlasting peace. While at the Peace Park, enjoy the exhibits at the world-famous Hiroshima Peace Park Museum. This museum collects the history and artifacts from the bombing and is a reminder of the city of Hiroshima's wish for world peace.

In the afternoon, we take a short ferry ride to Miyajima Island, famous for its breathtaking Itsukushima Shrine and the iconic “floating” torii gate. At high tide, the shrine and its gate appear to float gracefully on the Seto Inland Sea, making it one of Japan’s top scenic views.

While exploring Miyajima, don’t miss the island’s famous treats. We highly recommend trying Momiji Manju—a maple leaf-shaped pastry filled with red bean paste (JDT Recommends)—and sampling fresh, locally caught Hiroshima oysters, a delicacy known throughout Japan for its rich flavor and freshness (JDT Recommends).

After a full day of discovery, cultural immersion, and culinary delights, we return to the hotel to relax and reflect on the unforgettable experiences of the day.
