Kanji of the 2016 Year : 金 !
金 is Kanji of the Year
The Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation, which has been conducting surveys for this event since 1995, announced Monday that the Kanji of the Year is 金 or "gold". The record number of gold medals won by Japanese athletes at the Olympics in Rio, former Tokyo governor Yoichi Masuzoe's financial scandal, presidential elect Donald Trump, and Piko Taro, creator of PPAP, with his gold costume are a a few reasons people chose "gold" as the kanji of the year. This is the 2nd time in 5 years 金 has been voted first with the last time being in 2000.
