Featured Experience on our Anime Japan Tours vacation series.

The Shinjuku Robot Restaurant has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Japan, attracting tourists from around the world to come see the show. Located in Shinjuku's Kabukicho district and just a short walk away from the Shinjuku train station, the Robot Restaurant is an accessible place for visitors finding their way around Tokyo. The restaurant opened it's doors in 2012, gaining popularity over the years thanks to the electrifying shows featuring battling robots, bikini-clad girls dancing, and thunderous taiko drums. The show blends elements of traditional Japanese story telling with the modern wonders that Japan has become famous for. While Japan is no stranger to providing unique dining experiences (think Zauo's catch your own dinner for example), the show at the Robot Restaurant is constantly ranked as the most unique or craziest themed-restaurant in Tokyo.

Tourists will know when they reach the restaurant because the name is written in giant, glowing, flashy neon lights. The bright colors from the sign are just a small sample for what's to come inside. You're bound to see a tour guide leading their group or families heading the same way. When walking through the building to the waiting lounge, the bright colors and mirrors reflect as if you were walking inside a kaleidoscope. The lounge upstairs has cabaret singers and a cocktail bar for you to relax before the real show begins. Unwind before the show with a beverage and maybe take a couple pictures of the atmosphere. While the restaurant does serve bento box dinners, the real treat is coming for the show. Although the bento boxes offer a fine sample of Japanese food, it is actually recommended for guests to eat before the show at one of Shinjuku's many delicious restaurants, especially if you're travelling with a small group tour. Whether you choose to eat before hand or catch dinner and a show, the Robot Restaurant's incredible performance won't disappoint.
