You do not need a visa to travel in Japan if you are from the United States. You can visit Japan for 90 days or less with just a standard passport. If you are going to stay for more than 90 days, then you will need to contact the Japanese embassy to request a visa application. Our longest tour is 14 days, so you will have no problem, even if you want to stay and extra day or two.
