Itsukushima Three Views of Japan
A 40 minutes drive west away from Hiroshima city can get you to Miyajima Island. Miyajima is famous for the Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO world heritage site. The big red torii, a traditional Japanese gate often seen in Shinto shrines, looks like it is floating in the sea. Miyajima Ferry frequently carries passengers from Miyajima to the island and it takes about only 10 minutes. One hour express ferry service is also available from the Hiroshima harbor. You can see wild deer and monkeys on the island and they are considered messengers of the gods.
