Wasabi-Japanese horseradish

Wasabi-Japanese horseradish

Wasabi is a plant of the brassicaceae family, which has an extremely sharp eye watering flavor and includes cabbages, horseradish, and mustard. It has been cultivated for at least a thousand years. Wasabi is difficult to cultivate, and that makes it quite expensive. It needs clear running water. And outside of Japan, it is rare to find real Wasabi plant. So, most prepared wasabi and wasabi powder is actually a blend of wasabi, horseradish, mustard, and green coloring. This blend is much cheaper than pure wasabi. And the flavor is a bit flatter than pure wasabi, but it still has a sharp taste. Wasabi and European horseradish are similar but actually, Wasabi and horseradish simply don’t taste the same. Currently there are quite many Wasabi flavor stuffs in Japan. Chips, chocolate, ice cream and so on. Why don’t you try it?
