The Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium is a ski jump located in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Built in 1931 and resting on Mt. Okura, the stadium has hosted many winter sports events and holiday attractions. Among the list, the most notable event was the 1972 Winter Olympics Ski Jump Competition. Guests can enjoy a "ski-lift" ride up to the top of the Jump stadium for an exceptional view of Sapporo, as well as enjoy some delicious ice-cream in the cafe at the top. In addition to the Jump, there is the Okurayama Crystal house which features a shop, Japanese cuisine restaurant, and a Winter Sports Museum. The total slope from the bottom of the hill to the top is 133 meters (436 ft). While originally designed for winter holiday use, the stadium has evolved after decades of renovations and updates. The facility now includes a Summer Hill
which allows jumpers to practice winter sports without snow.
There's a ski-lift guests can use to reach the top of the ski jump. The smooth ride up and down the lift is great for photos, as well as to briefly relax before reaching the peak at the observation deck. There are also decorative ski's meant for photos at the top of the Ski Jump hill for an excellent souvenir. The facility also has viewing points guests can use to get better views of Sapporo's panoramic city. A popular destination for couples and winter sports enthusiasts, the Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium is a popular tourist spot to get away and unwind for a bit while touring Sapporo. Take plenty of pictures with the decoration during your Japan tour in Hokkaido, and be sure to sample the ice cream in the observation deck!
