A field of the rape blossooms spread all over, wild birds streching their wings, and people who row the seaboard. Fukushima-gata Lagoon is a japanese lagoon which maintains the harmony between nature and human in Niigata Prefecture. It was created by the reclammation, letting Agano river flow directly to the sea of Japan in Edo period, which was more than 200 years ago, since then Fukushima-gata Lagoon has helped daily lives of local people in Niigata prefecture.

Now, this lagoon is very popular for tourists as a sight seeing spot. People can enjoy the beautiful scenery which is different season by season. Moreover, there are more than 450 kinds of natural plants and 220 kinds of wild birds in Fukushima-gata. Especially in the winter, wild birds of natural monument,"Ohishikui" come flying to there to pass the winter. This place is not only for relaxation and refreshment for these birds, but also provides visitors peace and healing.
