Gifu Shinhotaka Ropeway | First Double Decker

Shinhotaka Ropeway in Gifu takes you sky high, over 7,070 ft above sea level. As you make your way up the side of Japan's third tallest mountain Oku-Hotakedake, you will have an amazing aerial view of the Okuhida Region. The Shinhotaka Ropeway actually consists of two ropeways. The first ropeway takes you up 656 ft to Nabedaira Kogen which has a shopping center. The plaza has not only souvenir shops and restaurants but also an art gallery and a hiking trail. As you make your way to the second ropeway, you will notice what distinguishes Shinhotaka Ropeway from other ropeways: the double decker. Shinhotaka Ropeway was the first in Japan to incorporate this double decker feature in ropeways. Once you reach the top, the view is just breathtaking. If you go at the right time of the year you will find yourself surrounded by snow-capped mountains and hills.
