Katsurahama Beach is a scenic beach in Kochi with a statue of Ryoma Sakamoto, a significant historical figure. He was a crucial figure in negotiating peace between Chōshū and Satsuma clans which led to the end of Japan's feudal age. On the beach is also the Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum to commemorate all his efforts to bringing peace to Japan. Tosa Dog Museum is also a popular feature of Katsurahama Beach. In Kochi dog fighting is considered a tradition and not animal cruelty. These dogs are bred specifically for fighting and watched under close supervision.
