Shimanto River is river in Kochi with an area of 2,270 km². Shimanto River literally translates to Forty Thousand and Ten River. The river is known as the country's last pristine body of water and referred to as "the last clear stream of Japan". Unlike most other rivers, Shimanto River has no dams connected to it, leaving the waters fresh and clear. Fishing is a very popular activity at Shimanto River as well as nori, or seaweed, cultivation.
