The historic town of Yanai in Yamaguchi Prefecture
Yanai city is located in the eastern part of Yamaguchi. Yanai city preserves traditional style merchant houses with white walls, lattice windows and tile roofs from the Edo Period. It is a small, unassuming place, but it is a charming and historical town. The town is famous for its production of goldfish lanterns since it used to be a fishing village.
