Kyoto Jojakkoji Temple | Take the Steps to the Tasteful Dava Gate

Kyoto's Jojakkoji Temple was founded in 1595 at the foot of Mt. Ogura. Once you cross the front gate into the temple, you'll find beautiful maple trees lined along the way. There's a Dava gate with thatches that will lead you to the stone steps towards the temple. At the top of the steps stands the Jojakkoji's main hall and exquisite two story pagoda.

The temple is a very popular spot in autumn to view the changing leaves. The maple trees that line the front of the temple begin to change color, with the leaves covering the stone stairway, towers, and pagoda in lovely hues of red and orange. With around 200 maple trees on the temple grounds, Jojakkoji is one of Kyoto's most popular Koyo (Autumn Leaves Viewings) spots. During the summer months, the temple grounds are covered with the green leaves from the trees and moss on the ground, covering the temple in a scenic green. Enjoy one of Kyoto's most scenic temples after a group tour with us ending in Osaka!
