There is a famous 150 year-old Wisteria-trellis (Fujidana) at the Northern Culture Museum in Niigata. Believe it or not, all those flowers which covers an area of 146 square meters, comes from one big tree. The circumference of trunk is more than 160cm (about 5.3 feet).
Some of the drooping clusters of blossoms are nearly a meter long. In the morning the wisteria seems fresh and summery. In the evening when it is lit up it is bewitching.
The mass of blue blossoms and the sweet fragrance have a soothing effect. When the wisteria has finished flowering the ground beneath is a carpet of purple petals. The Wisteria of Fujidana is best enjoyed during the spring on a Cherry Blossom Japan Tour when the whole country is in bloom with bright colors!
