Located in Kyoto, the Gallery of Kyoto Traditional Arts & Crafts was opened in 2003 and mostly exhibits the traditional arts & crafts that are made by the students of the Traditional Arts Super College of Kyoto (TASK). Kyoto has been one of the most important centers of traditional Japanese arts and crafts for centuries, and the gallery’s concept is to offer the beauty of Kyoto’s traditional crafts works to the world.
On the 1st & 2nd Floors, the graduation projects of TASK students and professional works by TASK teachers including Buddhist sculptures, lacquerwares, bamboos, washi papers are exhibited. You will surely be amazed by the students’ splendid works, not to mention the teachers’ ones.
On the 3rd floor, there is a demonstration space where you can watch students working on their crafts. Different kind of demonstration is held every week and you can also ask questions directly to the craft workers. Since it is a unique exhibition, this corner became a popular attraction. It must be a valuable experience watching how Japanese traditional crafts are made by hand.
There is also a gift shop where you can buy Japanese traditional crafts including the graduation works of TASK students. Why not get some souvenirs there so you can feel and touch the beauty of the Japanese traditional crafts even after going back home?
