The Birthplace of Japanese Denim

Known for "Kurashiki Bikan Chiku Area" (Bikan Historical Quarter), Kurashiki in Okayama Prefecture is one of the most well-preserved cities in Japan. Do you know the fact that Kurashiki is the birthplace of the domestic jeans industry that has produced Japanese jeans for the first time? Kurashiki has many famous denim brands such as "KOJIMA GENES", "JAPAN BLUE JEANS", "Betty Smith", and "MOMOTARO JEANS". In Kurashiki Bikan Chiku Area, there is a shopping alley called "Kurashiki Denim Street" with Japanese denim brands gathering along. It was opened in 2014 and 1000 items from Okayama's world-famous denim brands are available.

"Indigo dye" is a traditional way that has lasted from the Edo period, and Indigo-dyed jeans are one of their top products. Dying with Indigo over and over, that process makes the color on the jeans last for long and gives jeans beautiful blue color as we call that blue "Japan blue". As if to prove its value, Okayama's jeans are used for some luxury brands such as CHANEL and Louis Vuitton. We also recommend you check the brand "Wakura" that is the original brand from Kurashiki Denim Steet. If you are a denim lover, Kurashiki Denim Street is a must visit. See and touch Okayama's world-famous jeans with your own eyes and hands, and get fashionable denim items over there.

In keeping with its "denim theme", Kurashiki Denim Street offers some denim-themed sweets and snacks such as "Denim Pork Bun", "Denim Soft Serve Ice Cream", and "Denim Burger". They are all covered with denim blue and they look cute (or maybe weird) but you cannot miss out on their unique denim-themed foods because they are only available over there. Come join our Quilt Tour and experience Kurashiki's "denim world", and don't forget to snap some pictures too.
