Okinawa Nakagusuku Castle | Remains of the Ryukyu Kingdom

During the Ryukyu Kingdom (1440–1879) Nakagusuku Castle was built as one of several castles in Okinawa. It was built by Ryukyuan commander Gosamaru to defend themselves from Lord Amawari. Unfortunately Nakagusuku Castle was destroyed in the battle and only the castle ruins remain today. However, the remains have been preserved very well and it one of the 100 most famous castles of Japan. Nakagusuku Castle was also added as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its preserves of the Ryukyu Kingdom architecture of stones.
