Karaage | Japanese fried chicken

Karaage is Japanese fried chicken, but unlike the western fried chicken, karaage is bite sized. The chicken is cut into smaller pieces and marinated in soy sauce, sake, ginger, garlic, and other ingredients depending on preference, then marinated by a powder mixture of flower, corn starch, and some salt, then deep fried until crispy and a nice brown color. Karaage powder is also sold, which can be used by itself to marinate instead of having to mix flour and corn starch. Karaage is very popular among children and continuously ranks as one of the top children's favorite foods. Karaage also serves as a great appetizer and is available at many izakaya. As like any other fried food, karaage is best enjoyed when it is hot and crispy.
