Osaka Shin-sekai, which translates to "new world", has a different feel from the rest of Japan, having been influenced by Paris and Coney Island. With such foreign influences, the northern part of Shinsekai, influenced by Paris, even has a Tsutenkaku Tower, a tower influenced by the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Today, Shin-sekai is known to be rather more dangerous than the rest of Osaka and Japan. The neighborhood has a larger homeless population than the rest of the country and might not live up to Japan's standard of safety. However, the neighborhood has a nice selection of street foods and souvenir shopping, and the vibrant atmosphere of this old town can be a great experience.
