JQS (Japan Quilt Society) was established in 2021 and aims to develop and promote Japanese patchwork quilts. The association strives to spread the knowledge and skills regarding patchwork quilts, and nurturing the young quilters.

- Shizuko Kuroha (Chairman)
Her significant style; quilts using indigo dye old cloth has inspired quilters not only in Japan but all over the world.
- Kathy Nakajima (Representative Director)
The first pioneer to teach Hawaiian quilts in Japan
- Yoko Ueda (Director)
Her significant quilt style like a painting is highly evaluated not only in Japan but also overseas.
- Yoshiko Katagiri (Director)
She projects Japanese art to Japanese quilts made with Japanese old cloth.
- Keiko Goke (Director)
Her modern colors and colorful patchwork are highly rated in the US and Europe, and her quilts are exhibited at Museums.
- Yasuko Saito (Director)
The fisrt contemporary Japanese quilter and chairman of the Japan Contemporary Quilt Association.
- Noriko Nozawa (Director)
Recognized in the U.S. and worldwide as a sewing machine embroidery artist.
JQS hosted the first Tokyo Quilt Show in March 2022 and successfully completed.
Now they announced the new quilt event that will be held in November in Pacifico Yokohama; World Quilt Festival 2022.
With the event being held, a new quilt contest "World Quilt Awards" has been decided.
At the World Quilt Awards, the works from the following 7 departments will be selected.
1: The traditional department
Original pieces developed using traditional patterns, methods and designs.
2: The Contemporary Department
Creative modern design original work expressed with free ideas and new methods.
3: The Hawaiian Quilt Division
Quilted quilts around Apprique, a work with a hand-made quilting line around it.
4: Youth Junior Division
18 and under, individual groups are available
5: Hand Quilt Division
6: Department of Sewing Quilt
7: Group Division
This quilt event will be held from November 3, 2022 – November 5, 2022. This event will brings top quilters to showcase their splendid quilt works. Also, there will be plenty of quilt materials and handcrafted items from over the country. More details will be released soon.
World Quilt Festival is featured activities on our Yokohama World Quilt Festival Tour. Experienced quilters and amateurs alike are sure to enjoy this new quilting event.
