Osechi | Traditional Japanese New Years

Osechi Ryori are traditional Japanese New Years dishes served in jūbako, special boxes. It is composed of a variety of dishes which are beautifully arranged in the jūbako. Osechi Ryori originally developed to have something to eat the first few days of the new year when stores were closed. The dishes in osechi are made from ingredients that don't spoil easily and can be left out in a cool area for several days. In addition, making the dishes in advance allowed mothers to relax and enjoy the New Years with her family rather than spending time cooking.
